ROOM IN THE INN Sponsored by Urban Ministries Center, this city-wide program provides housing and meals for homeless men, women and children from December to March. Once again we are faced with a cold winter and Temple Beth El, Temple Israel and the Levine JCC will be hosting homeless "neighbors" from Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. The RITI volunteers, for the last 15 years, have been nothing short of superb, helping out as overnight monitors, food preparers, food servers, setting up (make beds, set up tables and chairs) and cleaning up (put beds away, clean kitchen), as drivers (pick up and drop off "neighbors"), breakfast makers, lunch makers, bed movers and others. This is a great time to bring your teenagers along so they can get a glimpse of the difficulties our less fortunate neighbors face on cold nights on the Charlotte streets. |
