Rabbi Micah Streiffer

Micah Streiffer is a native southerner—born in Alabama, raised in Louisiana and Mississippi. He has lived in 11 places and is a product of all of them, especially of his nearly three years in Israel.

Rabbi Streiffer earned a Bachelors Degree in Judaic Studies and Music from the George Washington University in 2000. He spent time writing and editing at Torah Aura Productions, a leading publisher of Jewish educational materials, and was ordained a rabbi at the Cincinnati campus of the Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in 2007. While studying toward the rabbinate, Rabbi Streiffer served pulpits in Ohio, Indiana, Texas, and Illinois. He received awards for academic excellence and for facility with Hebrew language. In 2006, he was awarded the Rabbi Morris H. Youngerman Prize for the best sermon delivered in the HUC-JIR chapel.

Since arriving in Charlotte, Rabbi Streiffer has been active in the faith community, including serving on the committee for the citywide Interfaith Thanksgiving Service and on the planning team of the "In Our Own Back Yards" interfaith teen experience. He is a corresponding member of the CCAR Responsa Committee, the group that deliberate on matters of Jewish law for the Reform movement.

Rabbi Streiffer's rabbinate is guided by the principles of K’lal Yisrael (Jewish Peoplehood) and Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World). His passions include Israel, music, and Jewish learning. In addition to the bima, you might find him at the driving range, the guitar store, the sushi bar, or at the playground with his kids. Micah is married to Shoshana Lipschultz Streiffer, and they have three sons: Jeremiah (“Rami”), Noam, and Yair.
