Did you know that teens who drink before age 15 are 5 times more likely to become addicted to alcohol?  Also, alcohol is a gateway to using other drugs. For instance, they are 22 times more likely to use marijuana and likely to use cocaine.  No matter how wonderful we think our kids are, they may succumb to peer pressure and experimentation.  Communication needs to be on-going and make sure they know that it is unacceptable and dangerous to drink before the age of twenty-one.  Youth often take cues from the adult role models in their lives but it doesn't always keep them away from substance abuse.

0-1-2 Guidelines for Responsible Adult Alcohol Use:
  • 0 (Zero) drinks if you are under age 21, driving, pregnant, in treatment for alcohol addiction or in recovery
  • 1 (one) standard drink daily limit if you are female; and
  • 2 (two) standard drink limits if you are male.
(NOTE: Standard drink  12 oz. beer/5 oz. wine/1.5 oz. 80 proof spirits)
