Youth Director/Asst. Director of Education

Temple Beth El is searching for a dynamic, creative individual to serve as Youth Director and Assistant Director of Education, with a particular focus on informal education. Responsibilities

As Youth Director:
  • Serve as advisor for high school youth group
  • Oversee three younger youth groups and supervise advisors
  • Work with all congregational youth, including members of youth group, madrichim program, Teen Vocal Ensemble, Shabbat band, etc.
  • Supervise future youth lounge; maintain office hours and be available to youth
  • Coordinate College Connection program in conjunction with a lay leader
  • Staff annual Confirmation trip to Washington, DC
  • Potentially visit Camp Coleman each summer and staff youth Israel trips

As Assistant Director of Education:

  • Develop and oversee informal education and family programming
  • Coordinate Religious School Madrichim (Teaching Assistant) Program, and create leadership training for teenage madrichim. Assist with Junior Congregation at High Holidays
  • Work with Education Director on some management and supervision of Religious School
  • Teach in seventh grade and Hebrew High School, in partnership with clergy

Desired Skills:
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about Judaism
  • Involvement in and knowledge of Reform Judaism
  • Previous Jewish programmatic and education experience (Jewish camping experience is a plus)
  • Good organizational and communication skills; web savvy
  • Comfort leading informal worship and rituals in youth context (Musical ability is a plus)
