Be a part of the new Anshei Mitzvah program…

Anshei Mitzvah is an opportunity for those adults who have never had a Bar or Bat Mitzvah to participate in group study that will culminate in being called to the Torah. This program is designed for those Jewish members of Temple Beth El who want to broaden their Judaic knowledge and experience.Former participants have commented that the Anshei Mitzvah experience helped strengthen their Jewish identity and enhanced their connections to our Jewish community in ways they never imagined. It is a moving and emotional experience and one that you will always cherish. Classes will be taught by the clergy, Susan Jacobs, and master teacher, Barbara Feld.

The new Anshei Mitzvah program will be divided into three sections allowing participants who read Hebrew to enter the program at various starting points.Participants with no Hebrew background should start with the beginning Hebrew class starting in November. If you are interested in beginning this meaningful journey, please contact Susan Jacobs, Director of Education at sjacobs@beth-el.com.

“Is study greater or practice?” The rabbis asked.
Rabbi Tarfan said, “Practice is greater.”
Rabbi Akiva said, “Study is greater.”
Then they all answered and said, “Study is greater for it leads to deeds.”
                -B. Talmud, Kiddushin 40b

At Temple Beth El we have abundant opportunities for study.  No matter what level of learning you have, from knowing nothing about Judaism, to having never studied a line of Torah, to having read Torah year after year, we have classes for you.  We hope you will open one of our many doors to learning at Temple Beth El.

Intelligent Dialogue, Discussion, and Debate in Temple Beth El University

The Temple Beth El Adult Education Committee in Charlotte, NC invites you to register for the next minimester of their successful program, Temple Beth El University. TBE University is a powerful adult education program for casual or sophisticated adult learners that prefer interactive, discussion-based environments. Our classes explore the farthest realms of Judaism and deliver extraordinary lecturers and community leaders as instructors.  Does our learner need to be Jewish to come?  Of course not! Our learners all share one common characteristic:
a thirst for knowledge and respect for learning!

As adults, much of our religious education ends after adolescence when we turn our attention to higher education and professional careers.  It is no wonder so many in our community are unfulfilled with their daily lives, and seek spiritual fulfillment. TBE University is just the place to engage your mind in religious discussion about important themes and Judaism. Past classes have included Rabbinic Literature, Kabbalah, Jewish Responses to the New Testament, Radical Jewish Theology of God, and many more.

TBE University is a grassroots program that depends on the feedback and interests of participants to select classes. We’ve made classes truly affordable (starting at $18), three consecutive Wednesday evenings mean the time commitment is small, and we even provide recess for coffee, cookies and kibbitz (Yiddish for chit-chat). Temple Beth El in Charlotte revels in adult learning, and TBE University is just the place for adult religious education.
