“Is study greater or practice?” The rabbis asked. Rabbi Tarfan said, “Practice is greater.” Rabbi Akiva said, “Study is greater.” Then they all answered and said, “Study is greater for it leads to deeds.” -B. Talmud, Kiddushin 40b At Temple Beth El we have abundant opportunities for study. No matter what level of learning you have, from knowing nothing about Judaism, to having never studied a line of Torah, to having read Torah year after year, we have classes for you. We hope you will open one of our many doors to learning at Temple Beth El. Hebrew Classes and Anshei Mitzvah…Discover your Jewish Identity Anshei Mitzvah is an opportunity for those adults who have never had a Bar or Bat Mitzvah to participate in intensive group study that will culminate in being called to the Torah and leading Shabbat services for the entire congregation. To get started, you must enroll in our Hebrew program or have basic Hebrew knowledge. Hebrew 101 and 102 are prerequisites to taking Anshei Mitzvah Hebrew. Participants who have already completed Hebrew 101 and 102 are eligible to begin their study with Anshei Mitzvah Hebrew. If you have prior Hebrew knowledge you will be able to begin with Anshei Mitzvah Hebrew at the discretion of Susan Jacobs, Director of Education. Please call 704.749.3045 to arrange an appointment. Following the basic Hebrew courses, all participants will begin Anshei Mitzvah Hebrew taught by Susan Jacobs and master teacher, Barbara Feld. Hebrew 101 and 102 will be offered summer and fall of 2009 and are open to anyone interested in learning Hebrew. There is no obligation to join the Anshei Mitzvah program and there will be a conversational Hebrew option for those wishing to continue their Hebrew study without participating in Anshei Mitzvah.
