A Decade of Music and More
![]() Celebrating A Decade of Music and More The Zohar teaches that there are gates in the heavens above that open only to the sound of song. For ten years, Cantor Andrew Bernard has opened those gates for us by lifting our congregation with his voice, music, wisdom, heart and soul. On Friday, July 31, 2009, our congregation will have the opportunity to attend a Shabbat celebration and dinner in honor of Cantor Bernard’s decade of music and more. We need your help to make this celebration a reality. Cantor Bernard will be joined by Cantor Jennifer Frost of Congregation B'nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim in Glenview, IL. A 1999 graduate of the HUC-JIR School of Sacred Music, she was Associate Cantor at Congregation Rodeph Shalom in New York City before assuming her current position. Cantor Frost serves on the Board of the American Conference of Cantors and on the Joint Commission on Worship, Music and Religious Living. She has performed and recorded with Danny Maseng and Soul on Fire. They will be joined by Mary Thomas, our former cantorial assistant who is now a fourth year cantorial student at the HUC-JIR School of Sacred Music in New York — and Cantor Bernard’s chief partner-in-crime. There are many ways for you to take part: 1. Mark your calendar and join us on Friday, July 31, 2009 for the 6:00 pm service and dinner in the Sam Lerner Cultural Center with a special program of music and a twist on “Cantor’s Revenge” that we’re calling “Congregation’s Revenge” to follow. 2. Be an Underwriter or Patron for this milestone event and help us keep the costs low to enable all in our congregation to attend the event for a small amount. Become an Underwriter or Patron online here on our website. 3. Contribute to the Marian Segal Bennett Music Fund in Cantor Bernard’s honor. 4. All of the above! Underwriters: A donation of $360 will help defray expenses to make this event accessible to all congregants. Underwriters will be listed in the program, receive a special “thank you” gift and receive special recognition at the dinner. Patrons: Please consider a gift in one of the following levels. Patrons will be listed in the program. Cantor: $270* Maestro: $180* Composer: $90* Virtuoso: $72* Conductor: $36* Choir: $18* Soloist: Contributions in other amounts may be made on our Online Fund Contribution page here. *You may make your contribution online at our RSVP page by clicking here. If you would prefer to mail or fax your reservation or contribution, you may download all of the information, along with a reservation and contribution form here. Calling all students, past and present! This is your chance to thank Cantor Bernard, or maybe get a little well-meaning student revenge, by creating a scrapbook page, writing a letter, poem or any creative entry to be placed in a memory book to be presented at the dinner. Please bring your entry to the Temple office or email sjacobs@beth-el.com by July 17, 2009. Cantor Bernard will be deeply touched by these tributes. The celebration continues after services with a delicious dairy dinner, complete with dessert and wine and musical program with tributes in the Sam Lerner Cultural Center. The cost for the dinner is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. There will be a movie in the Family Place for young children during the program. Please RSVP for this event by July 24 visiting our reservations page here. Contact Susan Jacobs for more information on how you can help make this remarkable program a reality. |
