May 5, 2008—11:00 am
On Monday, May 5, at 11:00 am in the David Silverman Social Hall, Rabbi Schindler will ask the question “What does it mean to live in the Diaspora?” After lunch ($6 cost and RSVP required), S.P.I.C.E. will present a “Travelogue”— several of our members will share their tips and advice concerning their travels.

May 19, 2008—11:00 am
On Monday, May 19, at 11:00 am in the David Silverman Social Hall, Rabbi Schindler will discuss “The Power of Words in Judaism”. After lunch ($6 cost and RSVP required), SPICE will present their “Second Annual Spelling Bee”. Teams will collaborate to spell the correct word and prizes will be awarded to the team with the most correct answers.

Wednesday, June 4 at 10 am,
S.P.I.C.E. presents Senior University. Listen to a key note speaker, and afterwards, select a classroom discussion suited to your interests.

Monday, June 16 at 11:00 am
join S.P.I.C.E. for our last event of the season. Look for more information on this final program in the June/July issue of the VOICE.*S.P.I.C.E. will be adjourning for the summer.

“The S.P.I.C.E. Latke Brigade”

S.P.I.C.E. is an acronym for Special Programs of Interest and Concerns to Everyone (50+).

Our mission is to develop comprehensive educational, cultural, and social programs for the 50+ membership of Temple Beth El. Programming is possible through a grant from the BJH Foundation for Senior Services.

All SPICE programs follow the same format:
11:00 am – Jewish learning activities
12:00 pm – lunch
12:45 - 1:45 pm – Special Program

All S.P.I.C.E. programs are on the first and third Mondays unless otherwise noted, and lunch is available (cost $6.00) with a reservation made by the Thursday before the program to 704-749-3070 or .

S.P.I.C.E. PRESENTS SENIOR UNIVERSITY
Wednesday, June 4 at 10 am
Reading, Writing and ‘Rithmetic. Bring back memories? Well, bet your school days were never as entertaining as this “university” will be! Come listen, learn and lunch on Wednesday, June 4, when Temple Beth El will offer a potpourri of interesting, stimulating workshops that will energize, educate and excite you.

The fun begins at 9:15 am with registration and a java wake up call. You’ll get to choose two workshops, each lasting one hour, out of four that will be available to you. Two workshops will run, concurrently, from 9:45 am - 10:45 am. Following a 15 minute break, two DIFFERENT
workshops will run concurrently, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon. Afterward, a festive lunch will be served with a healthy dollop of camaraderie and conversation, to be capped off by a delectable dessert and a dynamic keynote speaker.

Workshops:
  • “The FUN AND CHALLENGES OF COMMUNICATING” facilitated by Mary Rutman
  • “THE POWER OF GOOD HEALTH”
  • “LIVING A PURPOSEFUL LIFE” facilitated by Michael Whitehead
  • “THERE’S TIME, AND THERE’S JEWISH TIME”
  • An introduction to the mysteries of the Jewish calendar. Facilitated by Hilbert Fuerstman

Cost: $10.00 per person. Your check, payable to TBE/S.P.I.C.E., NO LATER THAN MAY 29, is your reservation.
