President's Message

“The Future”

The future development of new leaders from our present pool of congregants is paramount to the long-term success of Temple Beth El.

As one of this Board’s main goals, I am committed to the creation of a leadership development program which will identify, train and motivate future leaders of our Temple.

With this in mind I have formed a “Leadership Development” committee, which will be headed by the very capable Walter Klein and his members have begun plans for the 1st Annual Leadership Weekend on April 5th and 6th, 2003. This weekend will be modeled from some of the most successful leadership programs through our UAHC resources.

We have learned from experience that it is possible to build buildings and create great institutions, but without dedicated and trained leaders, they cannot endure. A vibrant synagogue requires dedicated and knowledgeable leaders in order to fulfill its purpose. This project will be supported in part by the newly formed “Robyn Farber Leadership Development Fund”, which will be dedicated in memory of my beloved sister, Robyn.

In addition to an annual retreat, I envision ongoing study opportunities and leadership programs to ensure the future of Temple Beth El. These future leaders will represent us at our Temple, within the “Shalom Park community” and the community at large.

I am very proud and appreciate the many volunteers who have stepped up to take leadership roles on our board and our many committee chairs. Additionally, we at Temple Beth El have many members who have assumed vital roles within our broader Jewish community, such as Hal Levinson, President of Shalom Park Foundation, Sara Schreibman, President of the Greater Jewish Federation of Charlotte, and Lane Ostrow, President of the Jewish Community Center. We all owe these volunteers a great deal of gratitude.

From a personal standpoint I must tell you that synagogue and community leadership can be a wonderfully fulfilling experience whereby you can grow Jewishly while working toward the sacred task of repairing the world, starting with our own synagogue and community.
Please help me by volunteering to become a future leader and contributor by either calling our Executive Director, Arthur Kramer at 704-366-1948 or e-mailing me at lfarber@eastcoastentertainment.com
