All volunteer projects are assigned on a first-come basis. Unless otherwise stated, most projects are approximately four hours and begin Sunday morning following the opening ceremonies at Temple Beth El. Your project captain will let you know more about time, locations, directions and procedures.

AWAY FROM SHALOM PARK

1. FLORENCE CRITTENDON SERVICES
Is a residential facility for single pregnant adolescent and young women. We will provide a cook-out, games and arts & crafts activities. Must be 18+ to participate.

2. CRISIS ASSISTANCE
Is an agency that offers temporary assistance to those facing a short term crisis. As a part of this service, poverty simulations are held at various locations. We will provide volunteer support for such a simulation at a TBD
location. Ages 16+

3. LATIN AMERICAN COALITION
Is an organization that promotes full Hispanic participation in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region by informing, educating and advocating for the Latin American community. We will work around their office doing odd jobs and
painting. Ages 14+

4. INTERNATIONAL HOUSE
Is an organization dedicated to bringing Charlotte and the world together. Their mission is to promote international understanding by serving as a center for diversity, advocating for people of diverse national backgrounds and
facilitating professional and cultural programs. We will be doing painting inside the house and planting pots on their front porch. Pizza will be provided! Ages 14+

5. MECKLENBURG PARKS AND REC
Is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of parks across the county. As a part of this project, we will clean up and do some groundskeeping at a local park. Ages 8+

6. SALVATION ARMY CENTER OF HOPE
Is a shelter for homeless women and children. We will prepare and serve lunch to the residents of the shelter.

7. CATAWBA FOUNDATION RIVER KEEPERS
Works to keep the Catawba River (the major source of drinking water for Mecklenburg Co.) clean and pollutant-free. We will clean up a section of the river. Pack a lunch! Participants must be comfortable around water. Ages 12+

8. SUMMIT HOUSE
An alternative to incarceration for female felons who are pregnant or have young children. Moms and their kids are able to remain together as a family at Summit House while moms work towards putting their lives back together and achieving self-sufficiency. Hosting a mother's day lunch, a craft activity, and bingo for the families. Ages 10+

9. THOMPSON CHILD & FAMILY FOCUS
embraces children who are at risk for social and academic failure by providing intensive treatment, protection, specialized education and stabilized family environments. We will provide activities and games for the children in
a carnival-like atmosphere. Ages 18+

10. RECYCLING
Of electronic gear is critical especially given some of the potential pollutants that are used in their construction. We will be collecting old equipment and ensuring earth-friendly disposal. Ages 14+

11. MD 2008 VOLUNTEER BREAKFAST SET UP
Is an opportunity for early risers who like to slice fresh bagels! Come at 7:30 AM, slice bagels & set up for the breakfast. Then, clean up & be done by 9:30 AM.

12. MD 2008 VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION
Are you an efficiency expert? Do you know EVERYONE at the Temple? Then this is the job for you! Help staff the registration table at MD 2008 and get the day off to a good start for our many volunteers.

13. RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
Congregants and Religious School families will be able to donate blood as a part of MD 2008. Give one pint of blood (potentially save 3 lives) but definitely lose one pound. To schedule a donation time, please call or email Ray Fales at (704) 778-5143 or r-fales@hotmail.com.

We will make boo-boo bunnies and decorate and fill shoeboxes with activities for sick children at the Levine's Children Hospital, assemble summer learning packs for K-2nd graders at Sterling Elementary, and prepare
bag lunches for the Salvation Army's Center for Hope. All ages.

16. STERLING ELEMENTARY WORKSHOP
Support TBE's public school partner by assembling games and other manipulatives for math and literacy centers, sewing curtains for the office and the health room, and making a special surprise for the faculty and staff. Ages 9+

17. DOLLS FOR DARFUR
Create worry doll pins to be sold by an organization that donates the proceeds to combat genocide in Darfur.

18. PHOTOGRAPHERS
Photographers needed (with your digital cameras!) to record MD 2008 activities both at Temple Beth El and off-site. These photos will be used in future MD articles and brochures. Ages 12+

19. OASIS SENIOR GROUP AT THE JCC
We will be making seasonal centerpieces for the Oasis group to use daily at lunch.

20. DELIVERY COMMITTEE
We need drivers to make deliveries later in the morning to Sterling Elementary, the Battered Women's Shelter, Salvation Army's Center for Hope and the Levine's Children Hospital. Ages 16+

21. LETTERS TO TROOPS - NO REGISTRATION NEEDED
When you have completed your on-site activities, stop by and write a letter and color a flag to send to wounded soldiers and our own recently deployed TBE member, Barry Ross.

Religious School Projects -Off Site

22. CHARLOTTE GREEN #1
Is an organization that works with inner-city residents to develop and sustain community gardens. We will be working at Genesis Park at 1908 Genesis Park Place weeding and cleaning up the garden. All ages.

Is an organization that works with inner-city residents to develop and sustain community gardens. We will be working at the Afro American Center located off 7th Street weeding and cleaning up a large flower bed and the surrounding grounds. All ages.

24. SUNRISE ASSISTED LIVING
Sing songs, play bingo, and visit with the residents at TBE's across the street neighbor! We will also make tissue paper flowers and present them to the residents. Ages 8+

25. HEBREW CEMETARY
Visit the Jewish Cemetery to clean headstones and work on grounds as needed. Learn about the Mitvot and traditions for burying and honoring the deceased. All ages.

26. FAMILY PROMISE #1
Is an organization that helps low-income families achieve lasting independence. We will be organizing furniture at their storage facility at 805 Pressley Road in the RSM Business Park. All ages.

Is an organization that helps low-income families achieve lasting independence. We will be painting and/or cleaning an apartment, and/or helping a family move into their new home. Ages 9+

28. STERLING ELEMENTARY BEAUTIFICATION
Plant shrubs and other plants in front of the school, spread mulch, design and plant planters to beautify the entrance of the school. All ages.
