Kramer's Remarks

“Let me tell you a story”

Last month there was a quiz in the Charlotte Observer asking the participant to identify famous movie lines with the movie they came from.

It occurred to me that the readers of the “Voice” would probably be able to identify famous lines from the Bible and match them to the particular Bible story. I was a little bit busy at the time this column was due so rather than give you the actual quote, I have summarized them in modern day terms. The first readers who correctly submit the answers will receive a prize.

You can either email them to: info@beth-el.com or mail them to my attention at 5101 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. Good luck.

1. "Come on Son, let's take a walk. I want to show you something on top of the mountain."

2. "I don't understand it Chief, it's like one of those trick birthday candles. You blow it out but it lights back up."

3."Where am I going to put my scuba gear? I've got all these animals in here."

4."Mom always liked you best." “Yeah but Dad's the one that counts."

5."Icntundrstndawrdursaying."

6."OK, here's the deal. I want you to pack up all your stuff and move. I'll tell you where later."

7."She may not be as pretty as her sister, but give her a chance."

8."That is the craziest dream I have ever heard."

9."Trust me, jump in, the water's fine."

10 "Just humor him and listen. You know how my father is. Who knows, maybe he can help reduce your work load."

11. “Is this multiple choice, or do I have to give them all ten."

12.“Look, I got them this far. All you have to do is cross the river."

I put the contest first this month so that you would read my article.

Now that I have your attention - you should have received a letter in the mail regarding an easy way for you to help balance the Temple budget. As explained in the letter our pledge revenue is down and expenses including security, insurance, rent and UAHC dues are up. There is an opportunity for you to make an end of the year tax deductible contribution to help your Temple. Instead of one lump sum, if you prefer $10 a month for the next 6 months would certainly help strengthen the Temple’s financial picture. Please give what you can.

Amy and I wish you a happy Hanukkah and a happy and healthy New Year.
