Puzzled?
OK! I can take a hint. I've written an article in The Voice almost every
month for the past five years. Other than the occasional, "I read your
article." or "I read your article and I think you're wrong," no one ever
reacts. But put a puzzle in the article and the emails don't stop.
This month there were eighteen winners. Fifteen more knew all but one of
the answers. Congratulations to Rita Mond, Sandy Middleton, Paula Musler,
Doug and Paula Gentile, Bernice Cohan, Amy Lamparello, Ian and Donna
Emerson, Amy Abramowitz, Bev Katowitz, Harvey Katowitz, Elizabeth Winters,
Marie Joseph, Allen and Ethel Gordon, Marcia Merrill, Mara Huber, Rebecca
Olshan, and the Bennett family who correctly answered the puzzle.
So it's the summer. Let me get my article out of the way quickly so we can
get right to the contest. Welcome to Rabbi Barras. Fill out your renewal
forms and register for school. Remember services are at 6:00 except the
first Friday when there are two services, one at 6 and one at 8. Your High
Holy Day information will be mailed out August 1st. Have a great summer.
Now to the contest. Just to make Rabbi Bennett happy (and prove that I
read his article), I've chosen something Jewish.
There are two parts. The first is just like last month. Identify the words
that start with the letters. For example, 3 F in a Y would be 3 feet in a
yard.
1. The 10 C's 2. 4 C's of W
3. 613 M 4. 3 P's and 4 M's
5. 8 N's of H 6. 40 D's of R
7. 40 Y's in the D 8. 5 B's of M
9. 12 T's of I 10. 7 D's of P
The next part is called Wuzzles. You see them near the comics in the
Observer. Wuzzles are word riddles made to create disguised words or
phrases.
Example: NOON GOOD - Good Afternoon.
So here are your Jewish Wuzzles:
1. Pass
---------
Holiday
2. Mitzvah

3.

4. ????
As always, email the answers to
info@bethel.com, fax them to 704-366-1365 or mail them to 5101
Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28226. As incentive, in addition to the
normal prize, all winners names will be placed in a kippah and one will be
selected at random. That individual will receive a reserved parking space
for summer Shabbat services.
